Make a birthday cake on your own
Tuesday, 25 February 2014 by Ja Sam
You probably wonder why you should make a birthday cake when you can buy or order one. There are several reasons.1 - The feeling you get when you do something on your own.
2 - You can create whatever you want instead of choosing from something that is already made
3 - You can let your kid help decorate it *(risky!!). It will make you both feel really great.
4 - You can save some money. It's not much but you can use the money you save for something you really like. For instance if you save 20 dollars you can buy a spa candles and salt and take a relaxing bath.
5 - It can be a nice experience to share with your friends. You can invite them over to cook together.
6 - You can brag about it afterwards.
Here are some suggestions on how it may look like:
For this one you need only some icing you can find here and a lot of imagination. Number one can be bought on Amazon . If you can't find the decorations you like on these links or you live in a different country, just google "cake decorations (your city or your desired decoration)" and you're good to go.
For this one you just need a bunch of MM and some cake topper letters
This one doesn't look that easy to make but if you try it you'll see it's not that difficult. Just buy some colorful icing and some letters and numbers.
You can find a recipe for the cake anywhere. I suggest you try this one but it's really up to you.
For the cake (for each of the four layers)
3 egg whites
3 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
half a teaspoon of vanilla
half a teaspoon of flour
6 tablespoons of grind nuts
For the cream filling
12 egg yolks
12 tablespoons of sugar
4oz of chocolate
9oz of butter
For the frosting
4oz of butter
8 oz of chocolate
1 - Mix the egg white with the sugar adding vanilla and lemon juice as you mix. Then carefully add nuts and the flour and mix it all thoroughly. Bake it in the oven for about 15 minutes (medium heat). You should notice that it's turning brown. It should look like this:
Repeat this four times.
2- Pour the frosting over that. You will get it by mixing butter with the chocolate you previously melt. Allow some time for it to harden.
3 - Make the cream. Mix egg yolk with the sugar and steam it for a while until it has thickened. Add the chocolate and stir some more. After it's cold add the butter you've previously beaten.
Now just spread the cream over the frosting. Then put the next part on top of it and add more cream. Leave some cream to place it on the top of the cake.
And you're done. Enjoy the cake.
